Create your own Home First Aid Kit
Here’s a checklist of supplies you can use for building your own first aid kit: Store these items in a water tight utility box.
- Antiseptic towelettes
- Antiseptic ointment
- Instant ice packs
- Bandage scissors
- Sponge packs
- Burn gel to treat burns
- Sterile eye wash
- Eye pads
- Tweezers
- Gauze
- First aid cream
- Pain reliever
- Safety pins
- Adhesive spots
- Assorted pads: Alcohol, Sterile, Iodine Prep
- Tapes: Surgical, Transpore, Micropore, Duct
- Assorted bandages: Adhesive, Elastic, Fingertip, Knuckle, Butterfly, Burn
Emergency Food and Water Kit
Have at least a three-day supply of food and water on hand. Choose ready-to-eat foods that your family likes and doesn’t need refrigeration.
WATER
- Drinking water – at least one gallon per person per day
FOOD
- Ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits, vegetables, and a can opener
- Protein or fruit bars
- Dry cereal or granola
- Peanut butter
- Dried fruit
- Canned juices
- Non-perishable pasteurized milk
- High-energy foods
- Food for infants
- Comfort/stress foods
Emergency Survival Kit
- Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
- Flashlight
- First aid kit
- Extra batteries
- Whistle (to signal for help)
- Dust mask (to help filter contaminated air)
- Plastic sheeting, scissors and duct tape (to shelter in place)
- Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties (for personal sanitation)
- Wrench or pliers (to turn off utilities)
- Manual can opener (for food)
- Local maps
- Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
Emergency Car Kit
Keep as many of the items in the passenger compartment of the vehicle while you travel. You may not be able to get access to the storage area to retrieve them.
